AdventureJam 2011

Are you ready for the next exciting experience in your life?

NSW Leaders Urgently Required!

The Australian Contingent to the next New Zealand Jamboree leaves in just six months with Scouts from all over Australia, but we are very short of appropriately qualified Leaders to go with them!  NSW currently has 51 Scouts registered, and we are anticipating more to register between now and the close-off at the end of May. To support those registered so far, we need to have 9 Leaders... we currently have only 3.

This is how it works:

Australian Patrols are made up of six Scouts and one Leader who stay together for the duration of the Jamboree – so you only need to mix with six enthusiastic scouts who speak the same language!  Your Patrol is welcomed into a New Zealand Troop and you get to do everything the Scouts do - with no troop woes to worry about, no troop pre-planning to think about, no programming to do i.e. this is a jamboree experience minus most of the hassles of attending an Australian Jamboree. You become a guest in the New Zealand Troop and get to spend lots of quality time with Scouts from Australia... and New Zealand!

Yes - we are looking for appropriately qualified, enthusiastic leaders to join the Contingent.
Yes- we need 6 more just to satisfy the needs of NSW.
No - you don’t need to be a Scout Section Leader, but you do need to be enthusiastic, agree with the philosophies and policies of the Contingent, and be familiar with the Patrol System.

What is this Jamboree all about?

The New Zealand Jamboree is held every three years (the year following the Australian Jamboree) and this year is being held at Mystery Creek near Hamilton.  Typically 5,000 Scouts and Leaders attend for 10 days of fun and excitement commencing on the 29th of December.  The closing ceremony is on the night of the 6th of January 2011.

The Australian Contingent arrives in Auckland on the 26th of December for a shakedown camp and leaves on the 7th of January either to return to Australia or to join the post Jamboree tour.

Activities are similar in style to those run at Australian Jamborees...but it's a bit less hectic due to the smaller numbers. The role of Leaders placed within the Troop Lines is to be with the Scouts and share in the experience with them!

To get an idea of what a New Zealand Jamboree is like, check this out:  http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=x6DDRZS3Ssk&pop_ads=0#  This promo is from C-Jam, the last New Zealand Jamboree, held in Christchurch just 2 1/2 years ago.  Can you spot any member of the Australian Contingent in their bright green t-shirts?

What a great opportunity to represent Australia and have a lot of 'low pressure' fun as well!

About the Tour:

After the Jamboree you have the chance to join the optional tour of the hot spots around the Central North Island.  This is going to be huge!  We'll  visit attractions under the ground, on and in the water, on the land and up on the Mountains!

The 10 day tour takes in Rotorua (where you will learn a Haka, ride the luge, experience geothermal wonderlands and visit a Trout Farm), Taupo (ride the Rapids Jet, visit a Prawn farm, Kayak or raft the Waikato River, soak in a hot pool), visit the National Park (see various Lord of the Rings sites, either walk the Tongariro Crossing or visit a working sheep farm and have a 2km raft race), and finally view the historic Waitomo Caves.

You may need a rest when you get home!
