Harmony Day provides an opportunity for us to celebrate our successes as a culturally diverse society and re-commit ourselves to harmony and mutual respect.
What is Harmony Day?
Australia celebrates Harmony Day every year on March 21. It is a national day that provides us with an opportunity to celebrate our successes as a culturally diverse society, re-commit ourselves to harmony and say “no” to racism.
Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
What happens on Harmony Day?
Harmony Day is celebrated nationally, by all kinds of organisations and groups. It is promoted by the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, and taken up nationally by communities.
Celebrations and events take many forms - from morning teas and picnics to cultural seminars and interfaith activities.
